About Me

My photo
Katherine Suggitt
Currently at the end of my 3rd year doing a Fine Art degree at Bath School of Art and Design. My current work: ‘Pentimento… the presence or emergence of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been changed and painted over.’ My practice is based solely on the process of Pentimento. I begin with one image, usually a photocopy of a sketchbook page. This would get photocopied again and worked into many times, creating layer upon layer of marks and textures using only a few mediums. The process is an accretion of the original work, when finally a large collection of completely different images is formed. The build up of black and white gestures, through mark making, deletion, obliteration, leaving traces and layering is inspired by artists like Christopher Wool. Andre Masson’s, ‘Automatic drawing,’ has always been influential within my own mark making also. CONTACT: katherine_amy@live.co.uk
